Carencro man allegedly shoots woman in the presence of their 6-year-old child

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- A Carencro man was arrested after allegedly shooting a woman in the presence of their 6-year-old child, authorities said.
Erik Dwayne Babineaux, 40, of Carencro, is charged with attempted manslaughter, obstruction of justice, domestic abuse aggravated assault, child endangerment and felon in possession of a firearm.
The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting just before 9:30 p.m. Friday in the area of Country Ridge Road in Opelousas. Officials said a woman was found with a bullet wound to the upper torso, in the presence of her 6-year-old child.
Also present at the home was Babineaux. An investigation led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol and the arrest of Babineaux, the father of the child, authorities said.
