USDA looks to hire firefighters for 2025 season in Kansas.

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Federal officials say they are looking to fill numerous temporary firefighter positions for next year to help protect national forests and grasslands in multiple Midwestern states.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Forest Service announced on Monday, Oct. 21 that it is looking to hire 200 temporary, seasonal wildland firefighters for 2025. Open positions exist in Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.

Donna Nemeth with the USDA said these positions include a variety of job descriptions such as engine operators, hand crew members, helitack crew members, fire lookouts and more. The jobs are open for people to apply to for a two-week period running from Oct. 24 to Nov. 6.

Firefighters must meet some basic entry qualifications such as being 18 years of age or older. Both U.S. citizens or nationals can apply for these jobs. Veterans' Preference and traditional rating and ranking of applicants will not apply.
