Golfer crushed to death by tree at course in Tillamook County
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 69-year-old Oregon man died after he was pinned by a falling tree at The Mook at Alderbrook golf course in Tillamook County on Oct. 19.
The Tillamook Fire District told KOIN 6 News that a tree roughly 20 inches in diameter fell on top of the man at 2:13 p.m. Firefighters used a chainsaw to free the trapped golfer. However, he later died from his injuries.
“The golfer was treated on scene for extensive injuries then transported to Tillamook Adventist Health where [he] subsequently passed away due to the extent of injuries,” the Fire District said. “Our heartfelt thoughts go out to the family and friends of this unfortunate, tragic event.”
The Mook at Alderbrook managing partners Patrick Zweifel and Michael Freeman issued a statement on Oct. 20 announcing that the man killed in the accident was local golfer Bob Dunn.
“It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of a tragic accident on our golf course involving one of our cherished and faithful golfers, Bob Dunn,” the statement reads. “We are deeply saddened by this news and extend our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Dunn was a dedicated member of the local golf community and a beloved friend to many, the course said.
“His presence on the course brought joy and camaraderie, and he will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him,” the golf course managers said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, offering them comfort and strength as they navigate through this unimaginable loss.”
The Mook at Alderbrook Pro Shop is accepting messages from the public for those looking to pay their respects to Dunn and his family.
