Former Spurs scout wants club to get into ‘bidding war’ for 23-year-old

Tottenham’s former scout, Bryan King, believes the Lilywhites should be battling it out with their rivals for the services of an up-and-coming Premier League midfielder.

Do Tottenham need reinforcements in midfield?

A new midfielder may no longer be an urgent requirement for Ange Postecoglou as Dejan Kulusevski has been permanently moved to the number eight role.

Currently, the likes of Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall are warming the bench, with the Spurs boss opting for a midfield trio of Kulusevski, James Maddison and Rodrgio Bentancur.

However, Tottenham continue to be linked with energetic midfield players, with reports over recent weeks suggesting that they are plotting a January move for Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey (GiveMeSport).

Bryan King urges action

King believes that Ramsey is exactly the type of target that Tottenham should be pursuing rather than going after players from the Championship. He urged the Lilywhites to get into the bidding war that is about to ensue for the Englishman in January.

When asked if Spurs should push ahead with a move for Ramsey, he told Tottenham News: “We’re talking about a top-level player here. Who else are Spurs looking at? Who else could be available? It needs to be this standard of player, this quality of player.

“They can’t be messing around in the Championship. If they want to be big then they have got to look big. This is a talented player who can continue to develop under Postecoglou. Arsenal and Newcastle are mentioned, if Ramsey is to be sold, his agent will want a bidding war.”

Villa might struggle to retain Jacob Ramsey

It was reported by The Mail earlier this month that despite resisting approaches for Ramsey in the summer, Villa might struggle to do the same in January.

It was explained that the midfielder now has just a year and a half left on his contract and he has no intention of signing a new deal at Villa Park.

The publication added that Unai Emery’s men are thus in a tricky situation and might find it difficult to hold on to the 23-year-old.
