Tottenham blocking out the noise?

Despite all that is being said and written about Tottenham’s style of play and the need for them to change things, it would appear that internally, Ange Postecoglou has kept a pretty tight bubble.

The Spurs squad seem to have completely brought into the Australian’s methods and one can see why, with their performance against West Ham showing yet again how devastating they can be when they are at their best.

Alan Shearer praises Ange Postecoglou

Shearer has now pointed out that Spurs had a marked improvement in the second half after Postecoglou introduced Pape Sarr in place of James Maddison at the interval.

The Newcastle legend praised the Tottenham boss for being proactive with his substitutions after coming under criticism for not making changes early against Brighton.

Shearer told BBC’s Match of the Day: “From looking fairly weak [in the first half], I suppose albeit creating a couple of chances and they gave a few [chances] away in the first half but in the second half they were a different team and he deserves all the credit for that.

“You can see the difference he [Sarr] makes, the minutes that he had, the distance, the sprints, runs, tackles and the duels won. That doesn’t mean that Maddison is going to be out of the team for a long time now, it just means that they have got different options in midfield.

“He [Postecoglou] perhaps got criticised against Brighton for not going and protecting the game when they were two up and he did something different at half time and it worked perfectly for them.”

Dilemma for Postecoglou in midfield?

Postecoglou now faces a dilemma on whether to continue with two attacking midfielders in Maddison or Dejan Kulusevski, or to play one more slightly defensive-minded player in the middle of the park.

Spurs certainly looked a lot more balanced with both Sarr and Yves Bissouma operating in behind Kulusevski in the second-half on Saturday.
