Mike Johnson accused of Trump 'cover-up' after combative interview

0

After sharing a clip of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) battling with Jake Tapper over Donald Trump's desire for prosecute his political enemies if he is re-elected, the hosts of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" lambasted the Republican leader.

Pressed on Trump calling his critics the "enemy within,": Johnson claimed that the CNN host was blowing the ex-president's words out of proportion, which led to a tense exchange with the exasperated Tapper.

Co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mike Brzezinski said Johnson gave the game away with the way he referred to California Reps. Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff — taking about them as if they are a physical threat to Trump.

"I don't really understand why Speaker Mike Johnson would like to participate in a coverup and also, quite frankly, for Republicans out there, this could be you on a bad day," Brzezinski offered after the clip ended.

"And 'they?" co-host Scarborough interjected pointing to how the speaker spoke of his House colleagues.

"I thought that was unbelievable," his co-host added.

"We're talking about Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff and he shifts into 'they' investigated him and 'they' tried to kill him," Scarborough replied. "Fortunately, Jake said, 'Who is they? Who is they?'"

"Yeah, doing a great job and Jake had the right clip. It was so easy to have the right clip," Brzezinski said, taking a jab at Bret Baier of Fox News who has been under fire for running a deceptive clip during his interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.
