Moody is locked in for three more years — and is perhaps receiving a bigger role this season.

Per Shams Charania and Kendra Andrews of ESPN, incoming fourth-year swingman Moses Moody has agreed to a three-year, $39 million contract extension with the Golden State Warriors.

On the verge of his rookie contract expiring and entering next season as a restricted free agent, Moody and the Warriors were able to come to terms to a deal that satisfied both sides. In his first three seasons, Moody averaged 5.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.7 assists on a 46/32/76 shooting split, all while averaging 14.3 minutes of playing time. This contract may signal an increased role in Steve Kerr’s rotation — and if preseason is of any indication (15.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists on a 46/39/95 shooting split while averaging 20.1 minutes), Moody may very well receive more of a prominent role than in seasons past — especially if the uptick in three-point shooting (39.4 % on 5.5 attempts this preseason) proves to be real.

However, the Warriors giving Moody this contract makes it harder for any salary matching to happen should Moody be part of any future trade talks:

But that is a problem for the future. For now, the Warriors have secured one of their two 2021 draft picks for the foreseeable future — and Moody is set to prove that the team’s decision to do so is justified.

While it seemed for most of the offseason that Moody and the Warriors would not agree on an extension, momentum had started to build over the last week, ahead of Monday’s deadline. Now he’ll enter Wednesday’s season opener knowing his future is secure.
