Jeremy Clarkson admitted shockingly low number of steps he takes before blocked artery scare

JEREMY Clarkson admitted he only walked 2,000 steps a day before his terrifying health scare.

The TV presenter was rushed for life-saving surgery on blocked arteries after falling unwell on holiday.

He was told he was “days from death” and has since vowed to get healthy at 64.

Writing in his column for The Times last year, Jeremy said: “I do make time to walk the dogs, but I’ve just checked the health app thing on my phone, and it seems that during this daily, hour-long stroll through the woods, I only ever do a maximum of 2,000 steps.

“So, to do 10,000 steps I’d need to be out there for five hours. And who has five free hours in a day?”

He added: “Healthy eating is another one. The diet industry thinks we have the time in our lives to find our spectacles so that we can read all the small print on food labelling. But we don’t, and even if we did we don’t know what it all meant.

“It’s the same story with drink. I’m told how many units I’m supposed to have each day, but I genuinely do not know what a unit is.”

Clarkson first felt unwell while on a break on an Indian Ocean island.

He wrote: “I was at the breakfast table and when I stood up to leave, I had to take a moment to make sure my limbs were working properly.”

He later had issues trying to dive, swim and walk which continued after his holiday.

One day he felt “clammy and there was a tightness in my chest”.

After returning from his holiday, Jeremy started work on his Cotswolds farm — which features in his Amazon Prime hit series Clarkson’s Farm.

But a doctor was called when he noticed “pins and needles” in his left arm.

Jeremy was then taken by ambulance to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

A stent was then inserted into the blocked artery to keep it open and restore blood flow to the heart.

Jeremy, 64, revealed he needed an operation to clear blocked arteries after feeling ill on a recent holiday.

He told The Sun: “I’m very grateful to everyone who sent supportive messages but I’m fine.”

He joked: “I just have to not do any manual labour or dishwasher emptying for the next four years.

“At least I think that’s what the doctor said.”

He previously said he is worried about his health and admitted: “I don’t have long left.”
