Kagiso Rabada achieves massive Test feat, joins Dale Steyn and Shaun Pollock in elite list
South Africa is playing against Bangladesh in the first Test of the 2-match series in Mirpur. After winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto elected to bat first. This decision didn’t prove to be fruitful at all for the hosts as South African pacer Wiaan Mulder decimated the top-order by taking 3 early wickets.
Then it was Kagiso Rabada’s turn to impress as he took the wickets of experienced batters Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das. Muhfiqur turned out to be Rabada’s 300th wicket in the longest format. He became only the sixth South African bowler to cross the 300-wicket mark in Tests.
Rabada joined the likes of Dale Steyn, Shaun Pollock, Makhaya Ntini. Allan Donald and Morne Morkel as the only South African bowlers to take 300 wickets or more in red-ball cricket.
Players | Matches | Wickets |
Dale Steyn | 93 | 439 |
Shaun Pollock | 108 | 421 |
Makhaya Ntini | 101 | 390 |
Allan Donald | 72 | 330 |
Morne Morkel | 86 | 309 |
Kagiso Rabada | 65* | 301* |
The highest all-time wicket-taker for South Africa in Tests is Dale Steyn who picked up 439 wickets in 93 Tests. On the other hand, Rabada has so far picked up 301 wickets in 65 Tests. Though it will be quite difficult for Rabada to surpass Steyn in the number of Test wickets taken, if he can remain fit and play Test matches regularly, then he does stand a chance of doing so.
