PTM leader claims over 1,000 supporters imprisoned in Pakistan

0

The leader of the Pashtun Protection Movement (PTM), Manzoor Pashteen, announced on Sunday that over 1,000 of his supporters are currently imprisoned in Pakistan.

On Sunday, in the latest action, Pakistani police arrested Khairul Amin Yusufzai, a regional official of the PTM.

Pashteen claimed that his supporters are being detained on terrorism charges, and the arrests are ongoing. Despite these challenges, he emphasized that the movement will continue its activities.

The Pakistani government has accused the PTM of having links to terrorist groups and has banned its activities in the country. The PTM has been critical of the Pakistani army’s operations in tribal areas and has called for the military to withdraw from these regions.

Pashteen further accused the Pakistani army of forcibly disappearing around 7,000 Pashtuns in recent years.

In a recent Pashtoon Assembly held in Khyber, PTM leaders and local Pashtoon representatives demanded that the government of Pakistan release all imprisoned PTM supporters and halt the harassment of Pashtun activists.

The assembly also called for the withdrawal of military forces from the Pashtun tribal areas, highlighting the need for civilian governance and the protection of human rights.

Furthermore, the Pashtoon Assembly urged the Pakistani government to address the grievances of the Pashtun people, particularly the ongoing issues of displacement, targeted violence, and lack of infrastructure in their communities.
