The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that approximately 30,000 social health workers supported by the organization operate in Afghanistan.

On Sunday, October 20, UNICEF shared a message on its X page stating that its workers are visiting homes to provide essential health services to children.

UNICEF emphasized the importance of therapeutic food services in helping children recover from malnutrition, adding that they are the only source of nutritional food for children in Afghanistan.

According to UNICEF’s statistics, 343,000 children suffering from severe malnutrition have been admitted to hospitals in Afghanistan for treatment this year alone.

Previously, the World Health Organization reported that 96,740 children with acute malnutrition had been treated in Afghanistan over the past three years.

The organization has warned that food insecurity is turning into an escalating crisis in Afghanistan.

Currently, an estimated 850,000 children in Afghanistan are suffering from severe malnutrition, highlighting the urgent need for continued international support to address the growing humanitarian crisis.

The alarming rise in severe malnutrition among children in Afghanistan underscores the urgent need for sustained international support. With nearly a million children affected, organizations like UNICEF are crucial in providing life-saving services.

However, without immediate and expanded efforts to address the worsening food insecurity, the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan is likely to intensify, putting countless more lives at risk.
