Figure skating fans won’t want to miss the men’s free program on Sunday as part of 2024 Skate America.

The event is the first of the 2024-25 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, so the field is wide open heading into this new season.

This weekend’s event is taking place at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas.

Last year, Ilian Malinin of the United States won the gold medal in this event with France’s Kevin Aymoz finishing second and Japan’s Shun Sato coming in third. Sato isn’t in the field this year, but the other two are and will look to repeat.

Malinin is one of three Team USA skaters in the men’s singles field alongside Lucas Broussard and Maxim Naumov.

Broussard is an 18-year-old who is competing in Skate America for the first time. He won this year’s Cranberry Cup.

Malinin is a 19-year-old figure skater who has already won gold this year at the World Championships in Montreal, and has won the last two U.S. Championships and the Grand Prix Final last season.

Naumov is a 23-year-old who was fourth in the past two U.S. Championships. He’s the clear underdog of the United States contingent for this event.
