Not only was her garden now free of nosey neighbours, it also looked like a tropical paradise[/caption]

According to the woman, she wanted to get some privacy from the people living next door and decided to spruce up the fence using bamboo sticks.

Chuffed with the gorgeous glow-up, Gill wrote in the post: ”I wanted to screen of my next doors fence and give me some privacy what do you think?”

The outdoor area featured a cosy wooden seating area painted purple and light blue, as well as gorgeous blooms adding an extra pop of colour and ornaments all over the garden.

According to the thrifty woman, whose garden looked like something from Alice in Wonderland, the project wasn’t expensive either.

Responding to one fan of the fabulous revamp, Gill said: ”The smaller bamboo wasn’t [expensive], I just attached to the neighbours fence with large staples.

”I wanted a feeling of tropical.”

Although she had ordered hers from eBay, fellow DIY fans can snap up the garden privacy must-have from a range of retailers, including Poundstretcher where it sells for around £7.99.

Another social media user revealed they’d purchased a similar version, measuring at 14ftx5ft, from Home Bargains for an affordable £5.99.

Amazed by the stunning results, more than a hundred people gave the post a like, as dozens flocked to comments to share their thoughts and praise Gill.

One was so inspired by the transformation, they were keen to give their garden a similar look.

”That’s fab hun. That’s what I’m going to do around my pool for the tropical look.”

Someone else chimed in, writing: ”Absolutely lush. I bet that privacy has given you a lot of peace I am inspired by your garden.”

Another wrote: ”Looks great!! Ours has been up for 2 years and had no problems! I painted it.

How to create privacy in your garden

CREATING privacy in your garden can be achieved in a number of ways depending on your budget, and the size of your space. Here are some effective ways to enhance privacy in your garden:

1. Fencing

  • Install a tall, solid wooden or vinyl fence. This is one of the most straightforward ways to gain immediate privacy. Or use lattice panels, trellis, or slatted fencing to add a decorative touch while still offering privacy.

2. Hedges and Plants

  • Fast-growing evergreen shrubs or trees like Leylandii, Thuja, or Bamboo along the boundary of your garden can help with privacy. Grow a dense hedge using plants like Boxwood, Privet, or Laurel. It may take time to grow, but it provides a natural and green privacy screen. Use climbers like Ivy, Clematis, or Wisteria on fences or trellises to create a lush, green privacy barrier.

3. Outdoor Curtains

  • Hang outdoor curtains around pergolas, gazebos, or patios for an easy-to-adjust privacy solution.

4. Sound Barriers

  • A water fountain or small waterfall can help drown out noise, adding to the sense of privacy. Or install fencing designed to reduce noise if privacy from sound is also a concern.

”Makes it blend in to the surroundings.”

However, there were also some who warned Gill about the harsh weather ruining the bamboo sticks.

”We did this last year and didn’t last at all as soon as winter hit.”

”Take it down in the winter or it’ll rot,” someone else suggested – to which Gill explained that the new fence had been ”weather-proofed”.

”There is weather proof paints / sprays in B&Q, screw fix.”
