Tottenham looking to Spain to strengthen forward line

According to reports over recent days, Tottenham have set their sights on Espanyol winger Javi Puado ahead of the January window.

The versatile attacker, who can play in either flank or even as a number ten, played a key role in helping the Catalan club win promotion to La Liga last season and has started the new campaign in fine form, with three goals from eight league outings so far.

It was first reported by the print edition of AS (via Sport Witness) earlier this week that both Spurs and Sevilla were keen on securing the 26-year-old’s services.

Tottenham at the front of the queue

The North London club’s interest in Puado is now backed up by La Razon, who say that the Andalusian club are worried that Spurs can blow them out of the water in the race for the wide-man.

It is revealed that the Spain international caught Tottenham’s attention this season during their scouting missions to watch Alejo Veliz in action for the La Liga side.

The report says that the Tottenham officials have delivered ‘very positive reports’ about the Spaniard and are now ‘threatening to take’ him away in January.

Cut-price deal on the cards?

La Razon point out that Puado’s current contract at the Stage Front Stadium runs out next summer, meaning that he can talk to foreign clubs from January.

The outlet explains that this puts Espanyol in a difficult position as they might be forced to sell the attacker in the winter if he does not renew his deal before that.

The publication adds that Puado’s contract situation means that Ange Postecoglou’s men could potentially land the player for a ‘very affordable price’ in January.
