India tackles snakebite crisis: New action plan aims to halve deaths by 2030

Snakebites pose a significant threat in India, which has the highest snakebite mortality rate globally. A 2020 study reported 1.2 million deaths from snakebites between 2000 and 2019, averaging 58,000 annually, predominantly in rural areas. In response, the Indian government launched the National Action Plan for Snakebite Envenoming (NAPSE) to halve these deaths by 2030.
