131K people left Oregon last year: These were their top destinations

0

(NEXSTAR) — Oregon saw its fair share of residents leave in 2023, according to newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Many of those ex-Oregonians didn't go far, however.

According to the latest state-by-state migration data, more than 131,000 people packed up their things and left the Beaver State in 2023. Fewer than the previous year when Oregon saw almost 158,000 people leave.

As it was last year, Washington was the top-receiving state of former Oregonians at just under 30,000 people.

Other popular options for moving Oregon residents were California (22,162 people), Arizona (10,465), Texas (10,141), and Idaho (7,458). New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Delaware were the only states in the country that did not have a former Beaver State resident call their new home.

Despite losing nearly 131,000 people last year, however, Oregon fell just short of making up that number thanks to nearly 125,000 people moving into the state, the Census determined.

That's a bit less than the 129,000 who relocated to Oregon in 2022.

As for overseas, Oregon saw a total of 28,378 residents move to the state from another country.

Oregon received the largest influx of newest residents from California at 33,807, followed by Washington (22,169), and Arizona (7,144).
