PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A new ranking from USA Today's 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards, ranked the top 10 best coffee chains in the United States, with one Oregon-based chain scoring a spot in the top five.

The coffee chains were selected by an expert panel and voted on by readers, USA Today explained. They noted the chains are "extra appealing" for their reliability, menus, and quality service.

Kaldi’s Coffee, which began in St. Louis, Missouri, scored the number one spot on the list. The chain now has locations around Missouri and Georgia with a focus on espresso-based drinks.

Oregon-based chain Dutch Bros Coffee ranked fifth on the list for best coffee chains.

Dutch Bros began in 1992 after co-founders Dane and Travis Boersma left the dairy industry and opened a coffee pushcart along the railroad tracks in downtown Grants Pass. Their first franchise opened in 2000 and quickly grew across the Northwest.

According to USA Today, menu favorites include the white mocha cold brew, and creamy Golden Eagle breve.

Joe Coffee based in New York City, Saxby’s based in Philadelphia, and Peet’s Coffee, which started in Berkeley, California, round out the top five coffee chains on the list.

Seattle-based Starbucks ranked number seven, with USA Today saying the chain gets "major brownie points for its sheer number of locations, great community ambiance, and unique lineup of customizable and seasonal beverages."
