Ice Cream Sandwiches take spotlight in Likhang Harina, Merry Moo collaboration
MANILA, Philippines – Calling all cookie enthusiasts! Pasig bakery Likhang Harina and artisanal ice cream brand Merry Moo have just come out with a collaboration that might just be your new go-to sweet treat.
The two local brands launched their Ice Cream Sandwich, a frozen dessert that puts a generous serving of Merry Moo ice cream between two pieces of Likhang Harina’s bestselling sourdough dark choco chip cookies.
The ice cream sandwiches come in two flavors: Milk and Salted Caramel. Milk is as simple as it gets; there are no mix-ins in the ice cream itself, so most of the flavor really comes from the cookies and the chocolate chips in them. Try this if you’re looking for the classic taste of dipping cookies into a glass of milk – but in creamier, frozen form!
If you’re looking for a bit more sweetness, though, you might want to try the Salted Caramel flavor. There are small pockets of salted caramel in the ice cream, scattered equally throughout the whole serving so you can get a taste of the salty gooeyness in almost every bite.
The taste of the ice cream base is subtle enough for the flavors coming from the salted caramel pockets and the cookies to not be too overwhelming.
The Ice Cream Sandwich itself is huge – bigger than palm-sized – so you can also split it with another person.
Give the Ice Cream Sandwich some time to thaw, and you’ll be met with two chewy cookies that pair well with Merry Moo’s ice cream! Fun fact: it’s the addition of sourdough discard that gives the cookies their chewy texture – but don’t worry, this doesn’t make the cookies taste sour at all.
The cookies are also made with dark chocolate chips, which balances out the natural sweetness of the dough.
According to Likhang Harina’s owner Janna Lim, the Ice Cream Sandwiches can already be eaten as is, but you can also try enjoying it in different ways. Drizzle it with flavored syrups of your choice, or top them with your favorite chopped fruits!
While the Ice Cream Sandwiches aren’t a regular item yet on the two local brands’ menus, Lim told Rappler that “we’ll keep replenishing stocks until okay pa siya sa (it’s okay with the) market.”
To maintain their freshness, it’s recommended that the Ice Cream Sandwiches are kept in the freezer for a maximum of two months.
The Ice Cream Sandwiches are available for purchase at P279 in Merry Moo’s physical branches and for P299 via Merry Moo’s GrabFood. For now, Likhang Harina only has them in-store at their Pasig City store, but they’re working on making the delivery option available without the Ice Cream Sandwiches melting in transit!
Likhang Harina is a Pasig café best known for its sourdough loaves, cookies, and coffee. In the past, it has also collaborated with premium Filipino chocolate brand Auro for its Double Dark Chocolate Sourdough, a limited menu item.
Merry Moo is also no stranger to teaming up with SMEs, as it has cemented unique partnerships with local brands like Auro, Mommy Treats, Lola Nena’s, and Hizon’s Cakes and Pastries, for limited ice cream flavors. – Rappler.com
