But before that race gets going, the drivers will have another chance to earn championship points on Saturday in the sprint race.

Defending champion Max Verstappen currently leads the point standings with 331 points, but McLaren’s Lando Norris remains on his tail with 279 points and a ton of momentum.

Verstappen was the dominant driver early in the season, winning seven of the first 10 races. But Verstappen hasn’t won since and McLaren cars have come on strong, winning three of the past four races. Two of those wins belong to Lando Norris.

This race has been won by Verstappen for the past three years, but Red Bull’s recent downturn opens the doors for a new winner here. Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes is the only other driver in this field with a win at COTA in Formula 1

The top eight cars in the Sprint race will earn points, with the winner earning eight points toward their championship total.

This weekend is the start of a four-race swing by F1 over to the Americas.
