7 Afghan refugees arrested in Turkey for using fake documents

0

Turkish authorities have announced the arrest of seven Afghan refugees accused of using fake passports and residence permits.

The Anti-Human Trafficking Branch of the General Directorate of Security in Kars, Turkey, reported on Friday, October 18 that these migrants had illegally entered the country.

According to Turkish officials, the individuals were identified and arrested during a security operation in Kars.

The report cited “forgery in official documents” as the reason for the arrest of these individuals.

Reports indicate that since the beginning of this year, Turkey has arrested and deported over 4,000 Afghan refugees from various cities back to Afghanistan.

Turkish authorities have also stated that operations to combat illegal entry and arrest migrants across the country will continue.

It is worth noting that more than 300,000 Afghan migrants are officially living in Turkey, according to government statistics.

Recently, the European Union allocated $11 billion to the Turkish government to support the forced return of migrants and refugees, including Syrians.

The ongoing arrests and deportations reflect Turkey’s stringent immigration policies, which target illegal entry and document forgery among migrants. The partnership with the EU adds financial backing to these efforts, intensifying the challenge for Afghan refugees.

These developments further highlight the precarious situation for Afghan migrants in Turkey, where they face the dual pressures of legal crackdowns and a lack of stable refugee protections amidst broader geopolitical concerns.
