Musk-backed PAC canvassers may have falsified doorknocking figures in key states: report

The Elon Musk-funded political action committee set up by the billionaire entrepreneur to help Donald Trump return to the White House is scrambling to meet doorknocking targets as it looks into allegations that some canvassers falsified the number of voters they claimed to have contacted.

According to an exclusive report in Reuters, the troubles with the group, America PAC, emerged in battleground states including Wisconsin and Nevada in the final sprint to enlist voters behind the Republican presidential nominee with just weeks to go before the Nov. 5 election. Citing sources involved in the group’s outreach efforts, the report says that managers “warned canvassers they are missing targets and needed to raise the number of would-be voters they contact.”

Alysia McMillan, a former Wisconsin canvasser for the group, told Reuters they were recently told daily objectives weren't being met and they were off track to hit their ultimate goal of reaching 450,000 voters by Election Day.

“We're not going to hit 450,000, not with what we've got now,” one manager said in an Oct. 8 meeting, according to an audio recording reviewed by the publication.

Similar warnings were issued in Arizona, Reuters reported. It noted that a source with knowledge of the PAC’s operations said McMillan's account of a shortfall in Wisconsin “is inaccurate and that the group will reach its goals.”

“Musk, ranked by Forbes as the world's richest person, so far has supplied at least $75 million to America PAC, according to federal disclosures, making the group a crucial part of Trump's bid to regain the White House,” the report said.

But despite its massive cash flow, the PAC’s outreach effort “has been plagued by disarray.”

Wisconsin and Nevada remain critical swing states that both candidates are barnstorming with the razor-thin race less than three weeks away.
