Small fire, smoking brakes on Brown Line CTA train causes temporary delays in Loop

A CTA Brown Line train was evacuated and no one was injured when a small fire started causing delays to several trains in the Loop Friday morning.

About 8 a.m., Chicago fire department officials responded to the station in the 200 block of North Wabash Avenue for the small fire, fire officials said.

The fire was put out before firefighters arrived and no injuries were reported, according to fire officials.

CTA officials said the delays were caused by smoking brakes on a Brown Line train and service on all impacted lines were running normally.

Earlier, Pink Line and Orange Line trains were rerouted to the outer Loop and trains were boarding and exiting on the Brown Line platforms at Washington/Wells, Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren, State/Van Buren, Adams/Wabash, Washington/Wabash, State/Lake and Clark/Lake, according to a CTA alert.

Also earlier, shuttle buses were operating from Merchandise Mart to Clark/Lake for the Brown Line, Halsted to Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren for the Orange Line and Polk to Ashland/Lake for the Pink Line.

No further information was immediately available.
