Middleton Bridge in Warren County torn down

0

BOLTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The bridge Warren County tried, and failed, to sell back in 2021 has officially reached its end. Middleton Bridge over Schroon River demolition began on Monday and has mostly wrapped up as of Friday, according to Warren County.

The bridge was up and running from 1896 to 2009. The single-lane bridge connected the towns of Warrensburg and Bolton but was considered unworthy of repair following the faults that were flagged by the county.

The county says another bridge over Schroon River to the north of the Middleton Bridge is in the planning stages. The state inspected the bridge every two years when the Department of Transportation decided it was time for demolition.

According to the county, the cast-iron pony truss bridge with a timber deck was built in 1896 and spanned 86.9 feet in length and 13 feet in width.
