Ange Postecoglou explains his ‘ready to explode’ comment after Spurs defeat

Speaking to the press ahead of this weekend’s game against West Ham, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou discussed his feelings about getting back to action after the disappointment of the defeat to Brighton two weeks ago.

Bounce back needed after Brighton

Heading into the international break, Tottenham were in great form with five straight wins in all competitions. All that momentum was spoiled with a trip to the Amex Stadium, however.

Ange Postecoglou saw his team throw away a two-goal lead at half-time to end up on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline after a disastrous second half.

The majority of the Spurs first-team squad have been away on international duty over the last fortnight, while Postecoglou has been working closely with those still at Hotspur Way, and stewing over the disappointment of that Brighton game.

Postecoglou has even admitted he has been ready to ‘explode’ when his players return, and a big reaction is expected from all when the Lilywhites take on their London rivals on Saturday afternoon.

Postecoglou highlights need for feedback

Discussing that explosion and what he expects from his team this weekend, Postecoglou told the press (via Football.London) how he has felt since seeing the players again this week.

He said: “Yeah, I was speaking metaphorically as I haven’t exploded. It’s one of those where it’s as much therapy to get things off your chest and it’s all about giving the right feedback.

“Emotion after the game has dissipated ten days later and players got appropriate feedback for a difficult game for us. As well as we did in the first half, it was a really poor second half.”

A big game for Spurs

It’s too early to panic or call it a must-win, but this West Ham game feels very important in terms of judging the squad and interpreting the kind of lesson they have learned from the Brighton game. Another bad result and/or performance here would really raise questions over some of the player’s attitudes and resilience.
