Paphos wave breakers to be discussed early November

0

The installation of wave breakers to protect Paphos’ seafront will be discussed in early November during a meeting between the transport ministry and local municipalities to finalise provisions for funding, local authority contributions and the project’s implementing body.

The meeting will be held at Paphos’ town hall and will be attended by eastern Paphos mayor Nikos Palios, Paphos mayor Phedonas Phedonos and head of marine works at the public works department, Stelios Zervos.

Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades called for the issue to be addressed following a letter from Palios.

In his letter, Palios stressed that the project should be managed by the public works department and requested a meeting involving all relevant departments and services.

“We are putting an end to the standstill and we are promoting the implementation of the project to protect and improve the southwest coastline,” Palios said.

The planned wave breakers, which will extend for four kilometres, will be divided into five sections, starting from the municipal baths and continuing west of the Louis Phaethon Beach Hotel.

The project was approved by the cabinet in January 2021, has already undergone an environmental assessment and is listed among projects proposed for EU co-funding.
