Contractor demands an additional 32.3 million for Paphos-Polis road

0

The contractor responsible for building the new motorway linking Paphos and Polis Chrysochous has requested an additional €32,329,800 to complete phase one of the project by April 29, 2027 – three years later than the original deadline.

According to the Stockwatch website, the contractor has so far completed 21 per cent of the project and had been paid €16,315,874.19 by July 2024.

Initially, the project was set to be finished by November 26, 2024, with a total cost of €72 million plus VAT.

In August 2024, the contractor submitted a revised work schedule, which included additional tasks such as building the Marathounta exit and relocating the irrigation pipeline for the Minthis development – works not originally covered by the contract.

Progress on the project stalled months ago due to technical and construction issues.

Following the contractor’s new demands, the matter has been referred to the ad hoc committee of the treasury’s central committee of changes and claims, in an effort to reach an amicable settlement.

The committee’s findings will guide the government’s next steps, though the government has expressed its desire for the project to be completed according to the terms of the original contract.
