Atmospheric river possible in the Pacific Northwest next week. Here's what you need to know
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Tis the season for atmospheric rivers as the Pacific Northwest expects the return of rain next week.
The scattered rain showers seen across the Pacific Northwest this week is a sign of the wet weather to come in the months ahead. Atmospheric river season is ramping up as the flow of moisture from the central Pacific finds its way back to the west coast.
Western Oregon and southwest Washington has already seen its first weak, short-lived atmospheric river this season. This second round of wet weather Sunday night into Monday morning will be along the same lines. Short-lived and weak in nature.
The potential for rain is a welcome sight as October's monthly rainfall still remains below average. October is typically the month when Portland and much of the region season the faucet of water turned back on.
It's been a slow start, but there's hope that Portland could near its rain accumulation of 3.42" average in the next few weeks.
Stay with the KOIN 6 Weather Team as the atmospheric river potential develops over the next several days.
