Fire rips through New Lenox cabinet company

A large fire broke out Thursday at a cabinet company in southwest suburban New Lenox.

Firefighters responded to a blaze about 10:30 a.m. at Tri-Star Cabinets & Top Co. at 1000 S. Cedar Road, according to New Lenox Fire District spokeswoman Marisa Tomich.

Everyone in the complex safely evacuated and no one was injured, Tomich said. Air quality levels remained safe, she said.

The fire, which was ongoing at 2 p.m., had caused "significant" damage, she said.

The facility contains a custom cabinetry store and 85,000 square feet of production area, according to the company's website.

"The situation is ongoing and multiple agencies are anticipated to be on the scene for an extended period of time," the fire district wrote on social media. "Please avoid the area if possible."

The fire district planned to hold a media briefing at 3 p.m., Tomich said.
