New Delhi: In a significant setback for the Indian team, star wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was forced to leave the field after injuring his knee while keeping during the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru on Thursday. Pant misjudged a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja, which struck his right knee.

Pant received medical attention on the field but was unable to continue. He walked off with assistance from support staff, appearing to be in significant pain. Dhruv Jurel stepped in as Pant’s replacement, taking over the wicketkeeping duties ahead of KL Rahul in the final moments of Day 2’s play in Bengaluru.

Following India’s stunning collapse to just 46 runs in their first innings, New Zealand’s batters took control on Day 2, establishing a crucial lead of over 100 runs at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Devon Conway fell just nine runs short of a century, as Indian bowlers struggled to regain a foothold in the match on this pivotal day.

Rishabh Pant top-scored for India with 20 runs off 49 balls, playing a crucial role in helping the team avoid their lowest-ever Test score of 36, which occurred against Australia in 2020. New Zealand’s bowlers dominated the innings, with Matt Henry taking five wickets and William O’Rourke claiming four, effectively dismantling India’s star-studded batting lineup.
