See it: Supermoon brightens the night sky over New York

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) – If you've recently gone outside at night and realized it's brighter out than it normally is, you have the Hunter's Moon to thank.

PIX11 photojournalist Keith Lopez caught the supermoon on camera, which set the sky alight over Nassau County on Long Island.

The Hunter's Moon was a sign for hunters to begin getting ready for the colder months.

The supermoon will be visible in the sky through Friday morning, according to NASA. It's also not the only celestial phenomenon happening near New York City – a rare sungrazing comet zipped past the Earth this week, visible from Fire Island.

The last supermoon of 2024 is the Beaver Moon, which is expected on Nov. 15.
