Larnaca presents bid for 2030 European Capital of Culture

Larnaca’s bid for the title of European Capital of Culture for 2030 was presented by the city’s mayor Andreas Vyras at a conference organised by the ‘Culture Next’ network in Cluj, Romania.

According to a statement released by the Larnaca municipality on Thursday, Vyras highlighted the cultural heritage and potential of Larnaca, stressing the significance of the title for both the city and Cyprus.

“Together, we are creating Larnaca 2030. Together, we are claiming a privileged future for our city at the European level,” he told the audience of roughly 100 attendees, stressing that “culture, solidarity, and innovation are key pillars for the city’s development and the surrounding region”.

The conference brought together representatives from cities that are past, present and future candidates for the title, as well as international and European cultural networks.

The statement further explained that Larnaca’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2030 is a crucial objective aimed at bringing the city into the international spotlight.

“The bid is expected to create new opportunities to enhance its cultural heritage, boost tourism, and promote local creativity and innovation,” it said.

“The Larnaca municipality, with the support of local citizens and organisations, is moving forward with determination to achieve this goal and bring the city to the forefront of the European cultural scene in 2030,” the statement concluded.
