Xbox’s latest console can save players money as it’s revealed to be more than just a new paint job

XBOX has just released its new range of consoles, which includes two new versions of the Xbox Series X.

People are now able to purchase a discless version of the Xbox Series X at a slightly cheaper price point than the original console.

Those who wanted more memory from their console can grab the 2TB Xbox Series X with double the storage space for a slightly increased price.

These consoles also come in different colours to the standard Xbox Series X. The discless version is white, while the 2TB version is black with speckles of green.

While fans believed that the consoles would just have these minor modifications and a new coat of paint, it appears that they are built with different components.

YouTuber Austin Evans broke down the new Xbox Series X consoles and found that inside there were a number of differences to the originals.

The consoles feature a new motherboard and a smaller chip, which means the 2TB console requires 10 watts less power to run when the console is idle.

The discless version is even more energy efficient, running at just 38 watts when idle, compared to the original’s 61.

This might not seem like a major difference, but over time this energy saving feature could end up reducing people’s energy bills by a lot.

Both consoles also use less power when playing games. The original runs at 167 watts, while the discless version uses 156 watts.

The 2TB version is the most efficient while playing games, running at just 151 watts.

One thing that Evans points out about the discless Xbox Series S is that there is still a space to fit the console’s disc drive.

However, this would be difficult to do, and would require major modifications to the console.

The vapour chamber cooling system on the original Xbox Series X has been replaced by a traditional copper piper system.

Despite the changes, it apparently hasn’t made any difference to the noise or temperature of the consoles.

Overall, the new consoles will run more efficiently, and while it’s probably not worth upgrading just for the energy efficiency, people should consider a newer model if looking to buy a console.
