Novato man accused of arson near bus stop

Novato police arrested a man who allegedly started a debris fire near the downtown bus hub.

Around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, patrol officers saw the suspect ignite sticks and leaves by the corner of Redwood Boulevard and De Long Avenue, police Lt. Sophia Winter said. They detained him and extinguished the fire, Winter said.

Brandon Scott Southwick, 36, of Novato was arrested on suspicion of arson and giving false information to an officer. He was booked into the Marin County Jail, where his bail amount was set at $25,000.
