Strictly’s Claudia Winkleman reveals her unusual style inspiration
Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman has revealed the inspiration behind her trademark and unusual style.
The presenter, who also hosts fellow BBC show The Traitors, is well known on the small screen for her pitch-black hair colour and strong fringe, with her style becoming instantly recognisable over the years.
During an appearance on BBC Radio 2 opposite Vernon Kay - the husband of Claudia’s Strictly co-star Tess Daly - the presenter shared a story that serves as the basis for her style, describing how she dresses like an imaginary character called Jean.

“I want a fingerless glove, and I want eye make-up that looks like I’ve slept in a skip,” she began. “I tell you what I’ve always wanted to look like - once I’d worked it out I was like: ‘I’m going with this.’
“I wanted to look like a male [and] mature French student. It’s true. Let’s call him Jean, right? He’s in Lyon and on the way to a lecture. He’s studying physics and he’s got a scarf on. He might have a turtleneck [jumper too].
“But you’re not going to believe this,” she continued. “On the way, he’s walking and it’s damp - guess what he goes past… A small pirate fancy dress shop. He picks up something [from there]. That’s my person and I have stuck with that.”
Claudia, who began presenting Strictly in 2010, continued by detailing her style on the BBC show, joking that she was “annoyed” at producers after being told that she couldn’t dress in the image of Jean.
