Busted: Iconic American manufacturer debunks Trump's claims of saving U.S. jobs

0

Former President Donald Trump recently claimed that his threat of tariffs in his first administration had supposedly saved workers employed by the iconic American farm equipment manufacturer John Deere.

However, intrepid CNN fact checker Daniel Dale worked to hash out the truth behind Trump's claim and he found that it was meritless.

Specifically, Trump claimed that John Deere abandoned plans to move some of its production to Mexico after Trump threatened the firm with massive retaliatory tariffs.

"But a search of news articles and corporate press releases showed nothing about any such John Deere announcement the day prior," writes Dale. "And in response to Trump’s story, a John Deere spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg News that it had not changed its plans or announced any such changes."

After dispatching with Trump's claims about John Deere, Dale went on to document more than a dozen additional false claims made by Trump this week during his interview at the Economic Club of Chicago that was conducted by John Micklethwait, editor-in-chief of Bloomberg News.

Among other things, Trump falsely claimed that South Korea does not pay America any money in exchange for military protection, that European countries don't want to buy American farm products, and that the Biden administration allowed 13,000 foreign-born convicted murderers to simply roam the streets of American cities.
