Demi Moore on Finding ‘Beauty and Sweetness’ Amid Bruce Willis’ Dementia Struggle

Demi Moore opened up about the “great beauty and sweetness” of accepting ex-husband Bruce Willis’ health amidst his battle with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Moore spoke on Sunday at the Hamptons International Film Festival (via People), where she was accepting the Career Achievement in Acting Award.

Moore, 61, told the crowd that Willis, 69, is “stable” at the moment. "You know, I've said this before. The disease is what the disease is,” she said. “And I think you have to be in real deep acceptance of what that is. But for where he's at, he is stable."

Moore added that, along with the couple’s three children, she’s learned to accept Willis’ condition rather than mourn the person he no longer is. "What I always encourage is to just meet them where they're at. When you're holding on to what was, I think it's a losing game," she said. "But when you show up to meet them where they're at, there is great beauty and sweetness."

The actress, who is garnering awards buzz for her performance in The Substance, noted that she was with Willis just "two days ago" along with their daughter, Rumer, and their granddaughter, Louetta. When she's spending time with Willis, it’s important to Moore that she and the rest of his family be “able to share with whatever we have, for however long we have it.”.

Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, announced last year that the Pulp Fiction star was battling FTD after being diagnosed with aphasia in 2022. Earlier this month, Moore and Willis’ daughter Tallulah told fans that she was done “disconnecting” amidst her father's health struggles.

"Hey, I love this guy so much, and feeling feelings is tough stuff,” she captioned a sweet father-daughter photo, “but I’m so grateful to let them flow through me now instead of disconnecting from it!”
