Burn ban effective immediately in St. Landry Parish
ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- A burn ban was issued Tuesday due to ongoing dry and windy weather conditions and will be in effect until further notice, according to St. Landry Parish authorities.
According to a news release, the parish is under a "red flag warning." The burn ban, which applies to all activities involving an open flame that produces embers, was put in place based on the recommendation of the state climatologist.
"The combination of dry conditions and high winds presents a significant risk for grass fires, and wind can carry embers away from the original fire, igniting new spots," parish officials said in the news release.
The burn ban is to help local first responders by reducing the number of grass fire calls they must respond to due to the weather conditions.
