Bilingualism Statistics in 2024: US, UK & Global

Being bilingual or multilingual comes with many benefits, from improved cognitive abilities to greater cultural awareness, understanding, and creativity. But just how many people in the world can speak more than one language in 2024? And which members of society are most likely to do so?To find out, we conducted a survey asking 2,000 UK adults how many languages they speak fluently, other than their mother tongue. We also conducted an analysis of Google searches to determine which languages are most sought after in terms of learning in each US state.
