An early, uncompromising version of a classic

When Carlos and Cayden Boozer committed to Duke, as far as we can recall, they are the first kids of Coach K players to commit to become Blue Devils.

They’re going to amaze people who saw their dad in Cameron in what seemed like just a few years ago and of course they’re charting their own path.

And in honor of a fresh generation coming into Cameron, we thought we’d link to this very early version of My Generation by The Who.

The Who came up with the ‘60’s British Invasion and were somewhat overshadowed by the Beatles and The Rolling Stones. However, they were formidable talents in their own right and, arguably, were punk before punk was a concept.

In this very early rendition of My Generation, you see they are still dressed in everyday, non-glamourous clothes. Later, when they became Big Rock Stars, punks in the U.K. saw them as sellouts. Keith Moon had a bizarre and tragic experience when he turned up in a limo at a punk club and ran over his chauffeur, a personal friend, in his panic to get away from the mob. The podcast Disgraceland has an episode that delves into this.

Moon wouldn’t survive his excesses for long, dying in 1978, but The Who remain an icon of rock n’ roll and as a song for the younger Boozers, you could do worse than My Generation.
