Nimmo Dealing With Plantar Fasciitis

Brandon Nimmo has been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot since May, and he believes he aggravated it in Game 3 of the NLDS against the Phillies. However, he plans to stay in the lineupaccording to an exclusive report from Tim Britton of The Athletic on Monday.

“Right now, it hurts pretty good,” Nimmo, who was limping during Game 1 of the National League Championship Series against the Dodgers on Sunday, told The Athletic. “The second-to-last game against Philadelphia, I did something on the field and made it quite a bit worse … When it gets inflamed and flares up, it’s a harder thing to calm down.”

Nimmo believes he worsened the injury in the sixth inning of Game 3 when he was on the bases. It may have happened when he was faking down the third-base line to distract the pitcher or when he scored on Starling Marte‘s two-run single.

He told The Athletic the injury causes him pain when he runs the bases but doesn’t bother him much at the plate or while throwing in the outfield. He was hoping the three days off before the NLCS would help more.

“It did get better,” he told The Athletic. “It wasn’t as good as I was hoping when I got out there. We’ll just keep doing what we can to stay out on the field,” he said, which has included soft-tissue massage, stretching and strengthening the area by the heel.

“It’s the NLCS,” he told The Athletic. “You do whatever you can to get out there and help in any way you can.

“It’s something that we know will get better with time. After the season, it’s at least a PRP injection, but you can’t do that right now. So right now, we’re doing what we can with painkillers and anti-inflammatories and stretching in order to give what I can for that day.”

Nimmo, who went 0-for-3 in Game 1 and left for a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning, is 7-for-29 (.241/.353/.345) with one home run in the playoffs. He hit .224/.327/.726 in the regular season and is a lifetime .304 hitter against the Dodgers (38 hits, four homers, 11 RBIs and 22 runs scored) in 42 games.
