KS homeowners beware: what to do to keep out pests as temperatures drop
TOPEKA (KSNT) - As the weather gets colder, rodents and other pests may start looking for ways inside homes and businesses.
Nate Watson owns Watson's Pest Control in Topeka. He told 27 News he's already seen an increase in rodent calls this year. He shared some tips for keeping them out.
"The biggest thing folks should probably take care of this time of year," Watson said, "is just do a thorough inspection on the foundation of their property, the windows. Making sure there's no entry points for the rodents to get inside."
According to Watson, some rodents can get through holes as small as a quarter of an inch. He also said house and field mice are especially common in Kansas.
Watson recommended double checking places where food is stored to ensure containers are sealed properly.
"In your pantry, rodents will get in there," he said. "If you're not sealing off your foods properly, that can be an issue as well."
