Police increase presence at Osage County schools following threat investigation

0

OSAGE COUNTY (KSNT) - Law enforcement in Osage County will be showing up in greater numbers at local schools after a recent investigation.

Sheriff Chris Wells with the Osage County Sheriff's Office said in a press release that deputies were notified of a potential threat to the Carbondale Attendance Center around 8 p.m. on Oct. 13. However, following an investigation into the situation, deputies and officers with the Carbondale Police Department found the threat was a rumor and no danger existed.

The sheriff's office will be placing deputies at schools in USD 434 in response to this situation as an act of precaution. People should expect additional law enforcement personnel at schools in the district, active patrols by school resource officers and strict security measures at all school entrances.

"The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority," Wells said. "We appreciate your attention and support as we work together to keep our schools safe and secure."
