FAWNL League Cup First Round

Team: Wiggins, Cooper, Blodgett, Lewin, Searle, Hennessy, D’Santos, Munro, Stanley, Hoile, Dzyaydk

Sub: Sampson

The first shot of the afternoon was provided by Helena Diaz-Butcher when the visitors’ No.6 shot wide from 25-yards.

At the other end, Annie Dzyadyk’s angled effort finished wide of the target.

After 14 minutes, following a good build-up, Alana Munro’s strike was kept out by Emily McGrogan’s legs.

For the R’s, after a free kick, Chrissie Wiggins superbly grabbed the ball whilst under pressure.

This was a good spell for the visitors and the Rangers keeper did well again when she managed to push the ball out following a cross/shot.  The ball was then cleared to safety.

Ellie Searle forced a corner after going on one of her excellent teasing runs down the left-flank.

After 36 minutes, Tori St.Clair broke away down the left-wing, before cutting in and with Grace Stanley guarding the far-post, Chrissie Wiggins made a very good stop.

Then, Annie Dzyadyk forced a superb save from the Swindon keeper. This was followed by Emily McGrogan keeping our Alana Munro’s effort.

This pressure paid off a minute or so before the break when Paige Hoile fired the ball into the top-corner. Half-time: 1-0.

Just minutes into the second-half, Libby Waylen had to be helped off with what looked like a twisted ankle?

Grace Stanley’s left-foot strike from outside the box was smothered by the Swindon keeper.

Rangers doubled their lead around the hour-mark when Annie Dzyadyk smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

As the Robins looked to halve the deficit, Chrissie Wiggins’ flying save kept out Helena Diaz-Butcher’s shot which was heading for the top right-hand corner.

After 68 minutes, Danny Harrigan brought on Chloe Sampson at the expense of Alana Munro.

The visitors had the ball in the net, and despite the lino’s flag being raised, the referee still decided to trot over for a consultation.

Swindon’s mounting pressure in the closing stages forced the hosts onto the back-foot.

With minutes remaining, after substitute Annie Colston’s shot had rebounded off the post, Chrissie Wiggins did really well to change direction and dive on the ball.

The Rangers keeper made another brilliant save in added time.

The R’s returned to the SkyEx Community Stadium the following Sunday to take on Chesham United.
