Former Premier League star, in his 20s, arrested over rape has case DROPPED and will face no further action
THE DATE rape case against a former Premier League player has been dropped, The Sun can reveal.
Police today revealed no further action is being taken against the international, in his 20s, over claims he attacked and raped a young woman at a top West End hotel.
The Sun yesterday revealed how the player was arrested at the five-star hotel in London.
His arrest came after a young woman he met a bar the previous night went to the hotel’s front desk alleging she had been raped and beaten by the player.
Cops launched an investigation and questioned the international throughout the day at a police station.
The player denied the allegations and he was bailed pending further police inquiries.
But the Met Police today revealed the case has now been dropped.
A spokesperson said: “A man was arrested following an allegation of rape. He was taken into custody and bailed.
“The case has since been closed with no further action.’’
The young female complainant had attended a Met Police Haven suite for examination and to provide a statement.
She was supported by specialist officers trained to deal with victims of sex crimes.
A source previously told The Sun how she had tearfully reported the rape at the front desk of the hotel.
The player at the centre of of the case has starred for several English clubs, including a Premier League team, as well as appearing for his country.
