Kings start hot, but cool off in Bucks comeback win
The Kings saw game action just once this past week as they hosted to Cranbrook Bucks in the fourth ever meeting between the two teams.
After killing an very early penalty the Kings didn’t waste much more time to get on the score board. at 3:26 former King Sam Belanger send and errant to the middle of the defensive zone and it went right onto the stick of Jason Davenport to quickly fired a wrister into the net. It would be the first BCHL goal for Davenport and it marked the first time the Kings scored the opening goal this season. At 15:25 the lead extended to two when Brendan Giles forced a turnover in the offensive end, the puck then found its way to Thomas Belzil who set up Christian Maro in front who scored his third of the season. Before the period ended Rasmus Svartström got the Bucks within one after a centering pass hit his skate and then deflected off Vincent Lamberti and Max Jelavic into the goal at 18:15
In the second the Bucks found the equalizer at 9:04 when Blake Cotton deflected in a point shot to make it 2-2. Shortly later the Kings found themselves on a long 5 on 3 power play but were unable to convert on the opportunity to regain the lead. Later in the period Cranbrook got their first lead when a Kaslo Ferner shot deflected off the stick of Calvin Beard to pick the corner to make it 3-2.
Entering the third the Bucks were a perfect 3-0 with the lead heading into the final frame while the Kings were 0-3 when trailing. The stats did not lie in this game as the Bucks added two more goals in the third to make it 5-2 which would be the final score as the Bucks scored 5 straight to pick up their fifth win of the season.
Vincent Lamberti make 33 saves while the Kings fired 30 shots towards the Cranbrook net. The bright spot for the Kings was the penalty which entered the day at the bottom of the BCHL standings, while the Bucks were at the opposite end at the very top with them converting on 50% of their man advantages. The Kings managed to shut them down at went 3 for 3 down a man.
The Kings are now 1-4-2 through seven games as they now get set to hit the road for four straight. Up next is the BCHL showcase where the Kings will play the Trail Smoke Eaters on Tuesday at 1pm in Abbotsford and the Surrey Eagles in Chilliwack Wednesday morning at 10am. Then on the weekend the Kings will be in Victoria on Saturday for a 6pm puck drop, then it will be a Sunday afternoon showdown in Port Alberni at 2pm. The next home games for the Kings are October 25th and 26th against the Prince George Spruce Kings who make their first visit to the Hap in 5 years.
