Showing at WatchTime New York 2024: Parmigiani Fleurier Toric

Parmigiani Fleurier, a renowned Swiss manufacturer celebrated for its innovative approach to haute horlogerie and timeless elegance, is poised to unveil the reimagined Tonic Collection at WatchTime New York 2024. The event, running from October 18 to 20 at Gotham Hall in Manhattan, will gather more than thirty-five of the world’s leading watchmakers.

The Toric, Michel Parmigiani’s very first collection, debuted in 1996 as the inaugural timepiece from the Parmigiani Fleurier brand, showcasing the master watchmaker’s expertise. Designed with meticulous attention to detail and inspired by the golden ratio, its round case features knurling and gadroons reminiscent of Greek columns.

At this year’s Watches and Wonders, the Fleurier-based brand introduced a new generation of the Toric, showcasing two exciting models that will be also on display at WatchTime New York 2024: the Toric Petite Seconde Manual Winding and the limited Toric Chronograph Rattrapante, which is restricted to just 30 pieces. Both models are elegantly housed in slim cases crafted from platinum 950 and pink gold, featuring stunning 18-carat gold movements and artisan dials. True to the dress watch tradition, the calibers are manually wound and boast exceptional finishing quality and intricate detailing.

The Toric Petite Seconde, with a diameter of 40.6mm and a height of just 8.8mm, is water-resistant up to 50 meters. Its polished case, which shares a knurled bezel design with the Tonda PF collection, is available in two striking versions: a platinum model with an almond-green dial and a pink-gold variant with a sandy-gold dial. Both dials are enhanced by a remarkable graining technique involving a unique mixture of cream of tartar, crushed sea salt, and silver, applied to gold base dials. This mixture is polished away with specialized brushes, resulting in an exceptionally smooth surface that diffuses light beautifully, creating a stunning backdrop for the minimalist layout comprising of hour markers and three hands that harmonize with the case material.

Inspired by the “vintage” aesthetics of the 1960s, the Toric dials are not uniformly flat, but beveled. Their edges slope slightly to rest against the inner face of the case, creating a difference in height. This “beveled” technique is inspired by the manufacture of watch crystals, another ancient and traditional technique. The crystal is shaped in a specific way so that it can adapt to the particular shape of the watch case. Unlike flat or slightly domed crystals, beveled crystals are curved or rounded to perfectly match the contour of the watch case.

The Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Petite Seconde is powered by the PF780, a newly developed movement with 60 hours of power reserve and an operating frequency of 4Hz. Three large surfaces in 18-carat rose gold, decorated with Côtes de Fleurier, serve as bridges. Only the two barrels and the regulating organ are visible within this beautiful mechanical “landscape.”

The platinum version retails for 56,500 CHF or $65,900 when converted to USD. The pink gold version has a price tag of 49,500 CHF respectively $57,744.
