Del Valle ISD names Matthew Gutierrez as new superintendent
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Del Valle ISD named Matthew Gutierrez as the district’s Superintendent of Schools during a meeting Saturday.
Gutierrez was named as the lone finalist for the position by the district on September 21.
“Dr. Gutierrez’s priority is guiding the district toward an ambitious path toward overall improvement,” DVISD said. “He is working to effectively build a community engagement framework designed to help meet the district's needs of almost 12,000 students.”
Gutierrez, who has a bachelor’s degree from Angelo St. University, a master’s degree from Schreiner University, and a doctorate from Texas Tech University, will be the first Latino superintendent to serve the district.
According to DVISD, Gutierrez has implemented a 100-day entry plan, which will be updated as advancements are made.
Before joining DVISD, the district said Gutierrez served as deputy superintendent for Leander ISD, as superintendent at Seguin ISD for six years and as assistant superintendent in Plano ISD.
