Mohawk Hudson River half and full marathons run through Capital Region
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - The Mohawk Hudson River Marathon and Half Marathon took place throughout the Capital Region on Sunday. Nearly 850 runners participated in the half marathon and 520 in the full marathon. The race was along the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers, utilizing 18 miles of paved bikeways.
It was the 41st running of the marathon and the 22nd running of the half marathon. The race had runners who participated who broke records. The half marathon started in Cohoes and the full 26 miles started in Schenectady, both ended in downtown Albany. Maureen Cox, the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club, Mohawk Hudson River Marathon Race Director, said the race has deep roots in the Capital Region.
"Its a race that has been running through the Capital Region, and runners love it," Cox said. "The crowd support out there is amazing, and the volunteers are amazing."
Cox said 850 people ran in the half marathon, and 520 in the full marathon, and the people came from all around the world to do it.
"We have people from all over the United States," Cox said. "We have people from India, we have people from Portugal. So marathoners and half marathoners like to do races all over the place, and this race gives them an opportunity to run a big-time race with a small-time feel."
The event was put on by several volunteers, including the Schalmont school cross country team and their coach, who helped cheer on the runners and prepare their metals.
