Downtown Portland's outdoor winter ice rink returning for second year
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland’s outdoor ice-skating rink is returning to downtown in just over a month.
Prosper Portland announced the rink will once again be found on 499 SW Naito Parkway, near Tom McCall Waterfront Park and the Morrison Bridgehead.
It will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Saturday, Nov. 16 through Sunday, Jan. 5. In 2023, the ice rink — Portland’s first outdoor rink in about 24 years — didn’t open for skaters until Dec. 16.
Similar to last year, the space will double as a Winter Village where the city’s economic development agency hosts events centered around food, arts and culture.
“Prosper Portland and the city, along with private sector and non-profit partners have been hard at work coordinating activations and events for the holiday season and the new year,” Prosper Interim Executive Director Shea Flaherty Betin said in a statement. “Through longtime favorites and new activities, we invite residents and visitors to explore downtown, support local businesses, and enjoy all that our amazing city has to offer.”
Ice-America will begin setting up in early November. After construction, the national company will continue operating the rink on Prosper Portland’s behalf.
The agency and company are seeking 25 to 35 residents to fulfill temporary positions at the Winter Village. They're hiring supervisors, skate monitors, cashiers and more.
Pre-sale skating tickets open on the Portland Winter Ice Rink website on Monday. They will cost $12 for children under 12 and $20 for adults. There are also $10 tickets for skaters who need an aid.
