Bail decision prompted Columbus-area judge's run for Ohio high court

COLUMBUS — Sitting on a trial court, Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Dan Hawkins said he was among those who struggled to adapt when the Ohio Supreme Court ruled in 2022 that judges like him could not consider public safety when setting dollar amounts for bail for criminal defendants.
